Oojah Kappivvy is a women's Morris Dance Side, based in Hastings Old Town , East Sussex, on the south-east coast of England .

Our name is an old Hastings expression for something, of which, you cannot recall the name. It seemed appropriate, at the time, to use it for our Morris side, which we formed back in 2003.

We dance at various times and locations, as can be seen from our programme and photo gallery. We often meet up with other Morris sides and a session of music and singing is not unknown to take place in the pub after the dancing.

The dances we perform are in the Cotswold tradition from Headington, Adderbury, Hinton and Eynsham.

Each year in June we have an “Ale” and “Day of Dance” with other invited sides. In August we perform at Broadstairs Folk Week.

Morris Dancing, of course, requires a considerable amount of dedicated practice and for this we meet every Thursday, in the hall (crypt) at St. Mary Star-of-the-Sea church (next to the Stables Theatre), Hastings Old Town.

As with all organisations, members leave from time to time and we are always looking for young blood to replace them. If you are interested, please come along to one of our practices (Thursdays 8.00 pm start) and see what we get up to. All newcomers will be made welcome and given a chance to have a go.

We are also on the lookout for some extra musicians (male or female) – preferably melodian or concertina players although other “lead” instruments (fiddle etc) are welcome.
